The Bonn Capitals have announced another transaction before the calendar turns to 2011. The club from the northern division in the German Baseball-Bundesliga has added the 27-year-old corner infielder Nick Shay to the 2011 roster. Between 2005 and 2009 he played in various independent leagues in the United States, batting .246 (OBP .355/SLG .353) with nine homeruns, 65 runs and 59 RBI in 148 games.
Although Shay mainly was used at first and third base in the past years, the Capitals also see him as an outfielder and hope that he will bring consistency to the middle of the batting order. He is the third new player to join Bonn after Philipp Spade and Michael Kratz. They also already re-signed Jon Marshall, Christian Nsien and Bryce Schoening. The foreign players are scheduled to arrive in March. The Caps had reached the playoffs for the first time since 2007, but got eliminated by the Heidenheim Heidekoepfe in the quarterfinals.
