At the B-Level European Championship in Karlovac, Croatia, three games were played on Tuesday. Croatia and Slovakia picked up their second win apiece, while Slovenia and Switzerland already dropped to 0-2. The Ukraine earned its first win in the tournament.
Slovenia – Slovakia 7-17
Slovakia scored 11 runs in the last four frames of a 17-7 blowout against Slovenia. Slovenia actually led until the end of the fifth, but wasn’t able to score again afterwards. Jaroslav Sitar and Tomas Biskorovajny had two RBI apiece. Biskorovajny also went deep. Jan Jablonka scored four times. Jaka Serbec had three RBI for Slovenia. Ales Strazar scored thrice. Jakub Okasa pitched eight innings in relief for the win. Igor Kep took the loss.
Ukraine – Switzerland 12-10
The Ukraine won a wild game 12-10 against Switzerland. Switzerland scored eight runs in the first and led 9-0 at the end of the third. But the Ukraine chipped away most of the deficit with a seven-run fourth. After tying the game in the seventh, they got ahead with a three-run eighth. Sergii Tykhonets hit a two-run home run during the rally. Roman Boiko went 4-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. Takanobu Oshima went deep for the Swiss team and drove in three, as did also Thierry Burkhardt. Maksym Lisnytskyi got the win with eight innings in relief. Daniel Levine got charged with the loss.
Croatia – Bulgaria 9-5
Croatia scored four runs in the eighth to break a tie in their 9-5 win over Bulgaria. A run after a throwing error, two RBI singles and a fielder’s choice decided the outcome. Both teams had scored five times in the first three and a half innings. Nikola Sertic and Kruno Gojkovic had two RBI apiece. Dimitar Nassapov and Martin Andonov hit home runs for Bulgaria. Andonov went the distance on the mound, but got charged with the loss. Antonio Horvatic pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win.
