The Swedish catcher/outfielder Bjoern Johannessen is joining his brother Peter Johannessen at the German Baseball-Bundesliga club Mainz Athletics. He is going to help out with the A’s in the beginning of the season since one of their regular catchers is still on college. The 37-year-old will stay for 16 games until mid-May before returning to Stockholm BSK. His teammate Joakim Claesson did something similar in 2010, when he pitched for the HSV Stealers at the beginning of the year. Peter Johannessen had joined Mainz last year and will stay for the whole season. Bjoern Johannessen batted .364/.491/.531 with 19 runs and 30 RBI in 123 Plate Appearances for Stockholm in 2011, winning the championship in the Elitserien.
