Bernadina, Van den Hurk miss Cut for Opening Day

Europeans in the USA Comments Off on Bernadina, Van den Hurk miss Cut for Opening Day

Opening Day in Major League Baseball is approaching fast. The 2011 season is going to start without Roger Bernadina and Rick van den Hurk. On Monday both Dutch players were cut from their Spring Training camps. Bernadina was optioned back to Triple-A Syracuse, as the Washington Nationals choose Laynce Nix as fourth outfielder. However chances are pretty good that he will be called up at some point later this year. Van den Hurk on the other hand has to cross fingers not to get released. Since he is out of options the Baltimore Orioles designated him for assignment. If he clears waivers he can be assigned to a minor league affiliate, but there is always the chance that he gets traded or cut altogether.
