The Bern Cardinals and the Embrach Mustangs are the first winners of the playoffs in the Swiss Nationalliga A. While the Saturday matchup was rained out, the Bern Cardinals beat the Zurich Challengers 6-1 on Sunday to open the semi-finals with a win. The Cards scored five runs in the sixth en route to the win. Ryan Byrne allowed just an unearned run on four hits in a complete game win. He struck out eight.
In the second matchup the Embrach Mustangs took the first two games of the best-of-five series against the Therwil Flyers. The Flyers were short on the roster, as Ty Eriksen and BJ Roper-Hubbert weren’t available and they lost 3-5 and 1-5. Tim Jones went 3-for-5 with two doubles, two runs and two RBI to lead the Mustangs in game one on Saturday. Reto Siegel drove in all three runs for Therwil. In the second match on Sunday Jones struck out 15 batters to dominate from the mound.
