Belgian Baseball to Start June 11

Posted on May 16, 2021May 15, 2021 by Gabriel Fidler

Graphic and press release from KBBSF-FRBBS.

In accordance with the recent positive developments around COVID-19 the KBBSF-FRBBS has decided to start all Belgian Baseball and Softball competitions from Friday 11th of June 2021.

“Our intention is to create as many play and game opportunities for our members, within the current applicable health and safety rules, as possible. It has been decided that there will be champions, relegations and promotions this year . There will be no summer break. Gamedays will be set up until mid-October, so it’s likely that 3 round robins (instead of 4 in a normal year) may still be played for every senior team in 2021.”

“It is the ambition of the KBBSF-FRBBS to organize Belgian Series for Baseball, Softball Men and Softball Ladies.”

For our highest Baseball Divisions there is a planned format change this season. The 12 baseball Gold and 1BB teams will make up the new Division 1 this year. These 12 teams will be placed (according to their 2019 ranks) in 2 pools of 6 teams and play 2 Rounds Robins. Then there will be a split : the top 3 teams of each pool will make up the Baseball Gold Division and the bottom teams will make up the Baseball Silver Division for the final stretch of the season. The team who finishes last in Silver will relegate to Division 2. The top two teams of Gold will play in the Belgian Series for the Championship.

“It all depends on the Corona developments and the upcoming European Championships of our National and Club Teams.”

The competition calendars will be drawn up and published as soon as possible in the coming week. During the Corona-stop we have used time well to set up a new competition software system and a new KBBSF-FRBBS website as well, go to www.kbbsf-frbbs.be.

“We are ready, the Belgian Baseball and Softball Clubs have shown that they are resilient and can adapt to the challenging situations. We are confident and will make it a positive 2021 season!”
