(Update) Belgian First Division probably with just 7 Teams in 2010

Posted on February 16, 2010February 17, 2010 by philipp

The Belgian Baseball and Softball Federation (KBBSF – FRBBS) has published the schedule for the upcoming season and it looks like there will be only seven teams instead of eight in the first division this year. The Brussels Kangaroos withdrew to rebuild in the second division. Additionally the Borgerhout Squirrels got relegated following the 2009 season. Update from a reader: The decision about K. Borgerhout Squirrels is still pending at the arbitration of BOIC. The Gent SEIKO-Optical Knights, who finished 2nd in second division in 2009, have offered their candidacy to join D1 as team #8.

The K. Deurne Spartans will be the only new club, having won the second division in 2009. They will compete against defending champion Hoboken Pioneers, Port of Antwerp Greys, Namur Angels, Brasschaat Braves, Mortsel Stars and Merchtem Cats.  The 2010 season is scheduled to start on April 10th.

First Week Belgian First Division:
April 10:
3.30pm Brasschaat Braves – Port of Antwerp Greys
3.30pm K. Deurne Spartans – Mortsel Stars
3.30pm Namur Angels – Hoboken Pioneers
April 11:
3.30pm Port of Antwerp Greys – Brasschaat Braves
3.30pm Mortsel Stars – K. Deurne Spartans
3.30pm Namur Angels – Hoboken Pioneers
Bye Week: Merchtem Cats

The KBBSF-FRBBS is also introducing a new feature on its website in cooperation with Sportingpulse to display the weekly results in an improved format. Complete Schedule

The arbitration committee meets this Friday, but a final ruling may take till the end of March.
