Coach John Baum and the Bern Cardinals (11-1) continued their march towards a third straight Swiss NLA championship with a pair of easy wins, 14-4 and 9-0, over the Lausane Indians (2-10) this past weekend. The Cards have won 11 straight games without national team ace pitcher Severin Fries who is still playing college ball in the U.S.
The return of national team shortstop Saentis Zeller has the Zurich Challengers (7-3) eyeing yet another Swiss title with two blowout wins, 16-3 and 18-3, over the Embrach Rainbows (1-9). National team catcher Tobias Siegrist is arguably one of the top 3 players in the country.
The young Therwil Flyers (5-3) continues to show steady improvement under their first-year Italian coach with a pair of impressive wins over the Sissach Frogs (4-8) last weekend, 13-4 and 9-6. A dominating team in the 90s, the Flyers suffered a huge loss this season when national team pitcher/shortstop Reto Siegel decided not to play.
The Zurich Barracudas (6-4) had their games against the Ruesbuhl Eagles (6-4) postponed due to bad weather.
