Baseball European Championship might expand to 16 Teams in 2023

Posted on February 12, 2020February 12, 2020 by philipp

During the annual CEB Congress in Vilnius, Lithuania it was revealed that the Executive Board of CEB decided to expand the field for the 2023 Senior Baseball European Championship to 16 teams instead of the previously 12. However the expansion is linked to finding a suitable organizer. If no organizer is going to be found, the number of participants remains at 12. Also for the 2021 European Championship in Spain the number of participants remains at 12 teams.

Additional the U18 European Championship will expand to 12 teams (instead of 10) starting from 2022. In 2021 qualifiers will be played to determine 4 promoting federations. The 2020 edition, which will be held in Macerata, Italy, will be played with 10 teams and will have two relegated federations. The next Super6 tournament is tentatively scheduled for 2022.
