Bandits upset reigning champion Metrostars

Posted on June 9, 2008 by philipp

The BANDITS, which had lost 13 of the first 14 games in the season, upset the reigning Austrian champion VIENNA METROSTARS and swept the doubleheader. LINZ got an 8-6 victory in the first part and celebrated a lopsided 12-3 win in the second.

In a duel between two teams from Tirol in the Austrian Baseball League, each club took one victory home. National team pitcher Paul Astl led the TIGERS to a 7-1 win in game one against Werner Harrasser and the VIKINGS. The leader came back and got a 7:3 in the second match to settle for a split.

The second team from Vienna, the SUPERFUND WANDERERS also struggled on the road, but rallied in game two to move into second place in the standings with the split against the DORNBIRN INDIANS.

The matchup between the MOSQUITO ATHLETICS and the STOCK CITY CUBS in Attnang-Puchheim was postponed due to heavy rain in the week before.
