The Baltimore Orioles traded for Italian third baseman Alex Liddi on Saturday from the Seattle Mariners. In exchange both teams swapped international signing bonus slots. Liddi was designated for assignment by the Mariners last week and now was added to the 40-man roster for Baltimore. However how much playing time he will receive with the American League East team in the big leagues remains to be seen, as the O’s have Manny Machado manning third base.
To make room the club designated outfielder Russ Canzler for assignment. The 24-year-old San Remo native Liddi, played just eight games for the Mariners in the big leagues this year, batting .059/.111/.118 with a double and a walk in 18 plate appearances. In Triple-A he had a batting line of .263/.322/.454 with 11 home runs in 59 games.
