Bad Homburg Hornets
The promoted Bad Homburg Hornets have added the 25-year-old catcher Brad Olt to the 2011 roster in the German Baseball-Bundesliga. He attended the University of Connecticut (NCAA Division I), where he was named defensive player of the year in 2006, leading his team to the New England Championship. After graduating he worked as an assistant coach at UConn and as a head coach at a high school. In two seasons in the Big East Conference he batted .207 (OBP .294/SLG .345) in 54 games. His brother Mike Olt got selected by the Texas Rangers in the first round of the 2010 amateur draft.
Haar Disciples
Left-handed pitcher Philipp Dresel is leaving the Baseball-Bundesliga club Haar Disciples to join the Laufer Woelfe, which got relegated from the third division in 2010. The 29-year-old, who began his career with the Fuerth Pirates and later pitched for the Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg, was in Haar since 2009. He has a 19-22 record with an ERA of 4.24 in 71 games in the Baseball-Bundesliga. In 2010 he appeared in only eight games, allowing three runs on seven hits and five walks in 7 1/3 innings.
