Austrian Weekly: Race for Playoffs still open

The Kufstein Vikings were able to hold their lead going into the summer break and came back with an extra inning win over the Dornbirn Indians. Due to rain in the West on Sunday only one game could be played, luckily the Saturday match-ups were not affected by weather but also didn’t help either team in the standings, as both, the Metrostars and the Cubs as well, as the Wanderers and the Tigers ended up with one win each. The Tigers got into an unfortunate situation in the second game when after all bench-players were already in the game one player got ejected which led to a forfeit since they didn’t have enough players on the field.

This coming weekend the Attnang Athletics have a chance to make a big step toward the playoffs. They will have to take two games on the road from the Schwaz Tigers, however with the acquisitions they made over the break give them a good chance at doing so. Superfund Wanderers host the last-place Linz Bandits and might have a chance to inch closer to the top-ranked Kufstein Vikings with two wins but they have to rely on the help from Stock City. The Cubs are coming off a split with the Vienna Metrostars which might give them a boost for their match-up with the Kufstein Vikings. The Indians and Metrostars are off since the Junior National Team is at the European Championships Qualifier with seven Metrostars, which makes it impossible for them to put a competitive team on the field.
