After last week’s first two games of the Austrian Finals the SUPERFUND WANDERERS are one win away from their second championship in team history. In the series opener Heinrich Amadei, Emilio Podreka, Owen Reid, Clemens Cichocki and Christian Tomsich went deep to lead VIENNA to an easy 12-4 victory against the SCHWAZ TIGERS.
The second game was much closer, but the WANDERERS still prevailed 5-4 despite the TIGERS having runners in scoring position in each of the last two frames. Nick Zambrotta for SCHWAZ and Nick DeForest for VIENNA exchanged homeruns.
The TIGERS now hope to repeat history in coming back from a 0-2 deficit on the road. In 1998, when they last won the Austrian championship, SCHWAZ also traveled to Vienna being down two games, but they came back to win the remaining three games against the VIENNA BULLDOGS. Paul Astl (Tigers) and Johannes Pernkopf (Wanderers) are expected on the mound for game three.
