Austrian Baseball League: Vienna Metrostars take 3-2 lead in Finals

Posted on September 30, 2013 by philipp

The Vienna Metrostars have taken a 3-2 lead against the Vienna Wanderers in the best-of-seven final series in the Austrian Baseball League. In game three on Saturday the Metrostars built a quick 4-1 lead through two innings en route to a 9-5 victory. The Wanderers offense didn’t really wake up until the ninth with three runs.

In game four, which followed immediately after game three, the Wanderers prevailed 4-1 to tie the series 2-2. Andrew Dowl won the pitcher’s duel against JT Hilliard. Hiro Sakanashi got the last two outs with two runners on first and second to seal the victory.

Game five was played on Sunday. It was the most dramatic of the weekend set. The Wanderers quickly built a 4-0 lead. However the Metrostars came back. They cut the deficit to one run in the fourth, tied the contest in the sixth and took a 6-5 advantage in the eighth. They held on to the lead and now are only one win away from the championship.
