The Australian Baseball Federation announced on Tuesday at the Sydney Opera House that the Australian National Team will play a pair of exhibition games at the Sydney Cricket Ground against the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks next March. The Dodgers and Diamondbacks are going to open the 2014 MLB Season at the same venue on March 22 and 23. On March 20 Australia faces the Dodgers, one day later the Diamondbacks.
“The 2014 MLB Opening Series is the biggest promotional vehicle that our sport has ever had in Australia and we are very honored and excited that our national team will play a key role in the event’s success” said Baseball Australia Chief Executive, Brett Pickett.
The Sydney Cricket Ground is currently receiving a major renovation ahead of the MLB Opening Series 2014. The historic sports stadium is usually home to the South Wales Blues cricket team and the Sydney Swans of the Australian Football League. It was established in 1884 and during its long history it has hosted various sports events. The MLB Opening Series at the Sydney Cricket Ground will mark the 100th anniversary of the Chicago White Sox vs New York Giants world tour, which also stopped in Australia.
