Press Release Australian Baseball League
The Adelaide Bite, proudly presented by SA Power Networks and Canberra Elite Cavalry came away from Round 2 with series wins over their opponents, led by several noteworthy performances from key cogs in each team’s machine. The Delta Air Lines Players of the Week for Round 2 are Bite starting pitcher Max MacNabb and Cavalry catcher Robbie Perkins.
In the Bite’s first homestand of the season in their new ballpark, Adelaide Shores Baseball Complex, MacNabb’s work on the mound was as masterful as we’ve seen in the league this season. In his first start of the year for the Bite, the 24-year-old California native tossed 5.2 shutout innings on Saturday night. He allowed just two hits while walking one and striking out seven batters to earn the win in the seven-inning nightcap of a doubleheader.
Perkins hit .583 (7-for-12) with two doubles, a home run, and five RBIs in three games over the weekend. His best game came in the Cavalry’s historic win in Wollongong on Sunday, when he went 4-for-5 at the plate with a double, a home run, two runs scored, and four RBIs. The weekend was an example of the hot start the young catcher has had to the 2016/17 season. Perkins currently ranks second in the ABL in batting average (.435), second in slugging percentage (.783), and second in on-base-plus-slugging (1.263).
