The Australian team cruised easily to their best World Cup of Baseball finish. They reached the game for fifth place with a 7-1 against Mexico.

They started the scoring in the second frame on a homerun by Glenn WILLIAMS. One framer later the Aussies sealed the win with five runs. Brett RONEBERG had a RBI-double, followed by a two-run-double by Tom BRICE and a two-run-triple by Matthew KENT. Brad HALMAN was responsible for the seventh run with a RBI-single in the fifth.

Mexico scored their only run in the fifth on a RBI-double Alejandro AHUMADA.

Adam BLACKLEY pitched six solid innings for the win. He allowed one run on four hits and five walks.

Jose JIMINEZ started for Mexico. He gave up eight hits, six runs and base on balls in just two-plus innings.

Josh HILL (AUS) was ejected in the seventh after hitting a Mexican batter intentionally. Moments before that beaning, the emotions boiled over on the field, as Mexico was upset over the stolen base by Trent OELTJEN with a 7-1 score. He was picked off at second and some bad words were exchanged as he left the field. The benches cleared, but no punches were thrown.
