The Netherlands and Australia kicked off a series of exhibition games right before the World Cup of Baseball in Taipei. The Aussies won 10-1 and showed, why they are a favourite in the upcoming tournament.
They scored three runs in the first and added a bunch of insurance runs after the fourth frame. Greg WILTSHIRE pitched four strong innings, allowing only one run on two hits, striking out three. Trent OELTJEN, Justin HUBER, Glenn WILLIAMS, Brett RONNENBERG and Tom BRICE went 11 for 18 at the plate with ten RBI.
The Dutch squad brought just one run on the board. Sidney DE JONG reached home on a single by Gregory HALMAN. Starting pitcher Kenny BERKENBOSCH pitched 4 1/3 innings and received the loss. Nick STUIFBERGEN, Berry VAN DRIEL and Duko JANSEN were also on the mound for the Netherlands.
Overall they showed some rust, needing more time to adjust to the circumstances in Chinese Taipei.
