The Atlanta Braves signed two more players in the wake of their academy in Tenerife, Canary Islands last week. This time the players were locals from Tenerife, Deion Galvan, a lefty outfielder and Roberto Machado, signed as catcher. The director of international operations of the Atlanta Braves organization, Johnny Almaraz, had announced the interest of his club in two of the players during the closing ceremony of the first year of the Academy and it was Nestor Perez who closed the deal.
With these new signings, the Atlanta Braves have now four players in their farm system that have been signed as a consequence of their operation in Tenerife. There is a lot of interest from young prospects all over Europe in taking part in this year’s concentrations to learn from the coaches and to try to impress them to get their chance to become part of the Major League Club.
Deion Galvan made three appearances in the Spanish Division de Honor for the Tenerife Marlins last season, collecting two hits in five at-bats. Roberto Machado didn’t play in the highest division in Spain, but was part of the junior national team during the European Championship in Bonn, Germany (2 GP, 1-3, BB).
