Athletics with two Victories on Playoff Opening Day in ABL

Posted on September 14, 2008 by philipp

The playoffs in the Austrian Baseball League began on Saturday with games one and two of the semi-final best-of-five series and the dominating team of the last months continued their winning ways. The MOSQUITO ATHLETICS celebrated two lopsided victories in SCHWAZ and now need just one more win on home turf next week to advance into the Austrian Finals. Carter Clements (picture) picked up the win in game two, despite giving up four runs. But the offense scored a total of 23 runs in the doubleheader to seal the sweep.

The second series is much more thrilling, as both teams won a game in the twin bill. Werner Harrasser led the UNION KUFSTEIN VIKINGS to a 7-3 win in game one. Johannes Pernkopf of the SUPERFUND WANDERERS took the loss. The second match was decided by an Emilio Podreka homerun late in the game for a 4-1 victory of the team from VIENNA.

Results:
Tigers – Athletics 3-12
Tigers – Athletics 4-11
(Athletics lead the series 2-0)

Vikings – Wanderers 7-3
Vikings – Wanderers 1-4
(Series tied at 1-1)
