Today the SUPERFUND Wanderers Vienna and the Schwaz Tigers open the new season in the Austrian Baseball League with a rematch of last year’s finals. Two other clubs completed their rosters this week.

The Athletics Attnang-Puchheim added the 23-year-old right-hander Miles Ethridge to its pitching staff. He also is going to serve as assistant coach. He is coming from the University of South Alabama (NCAA Division I), where he had a combined 6-5 record with an ERA of 7.04 in 43 games (twelve starts) in the past two years. He struck out 118 batters (67 walks) in 122 2/3 innings.

The promoted club Rohrbach Crazy Geese found a replacement for the injured Jose Castillo. They signed the 27-year-old Venezuelan left-hander Julian Granado, who pitched in 15 games for the Arizona Summer League affiliate of the Oakland Athletics in 2003. He also played independent league ball and spent time in Spain, the Czech Republic and Belgium.
