Athletic Sofia Cup 2015

By Alex Gorrin

Athletic Sofia have won the Sofia Cup. They defeated the Sofia Blues 9:8 in the final game. The Sofia Cup is a baseball tournament played between the teams from the capital of Bulgaria and gives them a chance to observe games on a more regular basis. As in previous years, most of the games on the calendar of the Sofia Cup are played in 7-innings and during weekdays (leaving the weekends available for the games of the regular National Championship).

This year 6 teams participated in the Sofia Cup, with the best 2 of the first phase, Athletic and the Blues, meeting, as the Sofia Cup tradition holds, in a regular 9-inning cup final on or around September 17 – the day of Sofia, nationally recognized holiday of the capital of Bulgaria. The regular phase featured 14 games. It’s the tournament’s 18th complete edition.
