With both games on Sunday played at the home of the Lamigo Monkeys in Taoyuan instead of Intercontinental Stadium in Taichung, the Rakuten Golden Eagles closed out pool play at the Asia Series 2013 with a 6-3 win over the Canberra Cavalry. Both teams were qualified for the semi-finals. But with the victory the Golden Eagles clinched the first seed and home field advantage on Tuesday.
Rakuten scored four runs in the first three innings en route to a quick 4-0 lead. After extending the advantage to five runs in the fifth, Canberra got on the board with three runs in the bottom half of the frame. But they weren’t able to close the gap completely. S. Koseki drove in three for the Golden Eagles. Y. Kosai scored twice. Casey Frawley had two RBI for the Australian club.
S. Nagai allowed eight hits, three runs and a walk in the first five innings, claiming the win. K. Hasabe and S. Koyama closed it out with perfect relief. Chris Motta took the loss, surrendering three hits, four runs and two base on balls in two-plus innings.
