The Arizona Fall League will open its gate for the 19th season today. Six teams, compromised with a selection of some of the best prospects in baseball, will compete in Major League Baseball ‘finishing school’ until November 30. From last year’s class Stephen Strasburg, Ike Davis, Jose Tabata, Starlin Castro, Mike Leake, Drew Storen and others were able to reach the big leagues this season.
Among the 180 players is also one European. German catcher Kai Gronauer, who is under contract with the New York Mets organization, is going to play for the Mesa Solar Sox. The 23-year-old batted a combined .291 (OBP .359/SLG .379) in 88 games this season, splitting time between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Florida State League.
