The 24-year-old American with Italian passport Anthony Sandstrom replaces the Czech Petr Baroch as shortstop for the Dutch Hoofdklasse club RCH MEDIA MONKS. He attended the University of Richmond from 2004 to 2006 and played for the Baseball team in the Atlantic 10 Conference (NCAA Division I).
In 2007 Sandstrom joined the Independent Baseball League circuit and made a combined 33 appearances for South Georgia and Charlotte County in the South Coast League. He came to Europe in 2008, joining the Italian Serie A2 club VERONA. The Fort Lauderdale, Florida native is scheduled to make his debut for RCH this weekend against SPARTA/FEYENOORD.
Baroch is 27 years old and played the past two years for the Hoofdklasse team, batting .299 (OBP .382/SLG .388) with four homeruns, 44 runs scored and 39 RBI in 76 games. He also stole 22 bases.
