On a special club meeting on Tuesday evening the Almere Magpies decided to withdraw from the Dutch Hoofdklasse due to financial reasons according to a report on Honkbalsite.com. Eighty percent of the members voted to go voluntarily into the second division in Netherlands Baseball.
After finishing the regular season in the Hoofdklasse in eighth place with a 9-33 record and losing play-down series against Mr. Cocker HCAW and ADO afterwards, Almere actually had secured its spot in the 2011 campaign with a sweep over UVV in the relegation/promotion series in September.
Now the Royal Dutch Baseball and Softball Association (KNBSB) has to decide, if UVV can take the spot for the Magpies. The club last played in the Hoofdklasse in 1988.
