Box score

The Magpies beat ADO 12-8 on Tuesday evening in a make-up game of last week’s rainout. Almere took a 12-1 lead after six innings before the team from The Hague did make things interesting with seven runs in the last two frames. But in the end it was too little too late. The first five batters in the Magpies lineup scored twice. Sytse Visbeen drove in three. Matt Ryan picked up three RBI for ADO. Scott Ronnenbergh (W) gave up five hits, a run and four walks in six innings. He struck out seven. Martijn Riphagen (L) issued three hits, four unearned runs and six bb in 2 2/3 innings. The game ended early after eight innings due to the curfew rule at night games in Dutch Baseball.

Konica Minolta Pioniers

After a dismal start into the 2010 season with just twelve wins in 27 games, the Konica Minolta Pioniers have terminated the contract with Canadian head coach Bernie Beckman according to a report by Rogier van Zon of Honkbalsite.com. The club informed him on Monday evening of the decision. A committee of the current assistant coaches Peter Barentsen, Theo Geerman and Dè Flanegin will take over. The Pioniers, which finished in second place in the final standings of the Dutch Hoofdklasse last year, also lost three of five games at the European Cup in Brno, Czech Republic last week and failed to qualify for the Final Four in Barcelona.

Hoofdklasse resumes on Thursday

The Dutch Hoofdklasse resumes regular league play on Thursday with a fresh set of three-game series. The Pioniers, which are currently in fifth place, are facing Corendon Kinheim, while their opponents for a playoff spot, Mr. Cocker HCAW and L&D Amsterdam, will square off against each other. Additionally DOOR Neptunus takes on the Almere Magpies and ADO plays against Sparta/Feyenoord Rotterdam.
