Three teams arrived at the baseball facilities of the Tempo Titans Praha at the last weekend in June to battle for the trophy at fifth annual international baseball tournament PRAGUE INTERNATIONAL BASEBALL CUP. Home team Tempo Titans Praha was joined by established participant Aligátoři Znojmo and from the German club Dresden Dukes.
Although one month before the start of the tournament organizers had eight teams on the roster, reality was quite different and with change number of teams in roster, the tournament system also was changed. In the end the three remaining teams played against each other twice.
The most successful team in the tournament was Aligátoři Znojmo, which remained unbeaten during the whole tournament; celebrating last-inning comeback wins on the second day in tight games against the home team Titans and the Dukes. The Tempo Titans Praha finished in second place, after crushing Dresden on Saturday, before losing the return game on Sunday. The Dresden Dukes finished in third place, but showed big improvement throughout the tournament. After lopsided losses on Saturday, they nearly beat Aligátoři on Sunday before finally picking up a win against the Tempo Titans.
Despite only three teams showing up, tournament was successful. A big thank you goes out to the players of the home team, who not only took the field for four games, but also organized and umpired all games. The sixth annual PRAGUE INTERNATIONAL BASEBALL CUP is again scheduled for the last weekend in June next year (June 25th&26th) and we believe back with more teams on the roster.
