Another young European pitcher is signing a minor league contract with the Seattle Mariners organization. Alexandre Roy is the next prospect from France after Joris Bert (Los Angeles Dodgers), Frederic Hanvi (Minnesota Twins) and Andy Paz (Oakland Athletics) to try his luck in the minors. He is the son of former Rouen Huskies pitcher and manager Robin Roy.
The 16-year-old Alexandre Roy is a left-hander, who is a product of the baseball academy in Rouen. Several MLB organizations pursuit him, but the Mariners won the race. Last summer he played for France at the European Junior Championship (together with Andy Paz) and also attended the MLB European Academy in Tirrenia, Italy.
The signature will be celebrated during a press conference on Thursday in Rouen. Besides Alexandre Roy and his father Robin Roy, also present will be Huskies president Xavier Rolland and Wayne Norton of the Seattle Mariners.
