Baseball.it reported on Monday that Italian third baseman Alex Liddi out of the Seattle Mariners organization is going to play winter ball this year. He will join Cardenales de Lara of the Venezuelan Winter League together with his West Tenn Diamond Jaxx teammate Jarrett Grube. The 22-year-old San Remo native is batting .269 (OBP .343/SLG .467) with 14 homeruns, eight triples, 36 doubles, 72 runs and 86 RBI in 127 games this year in the Southern League (Double A). It is his fifth professional season in the Mariners organization. The Venezuelan Winter League begins on October 12.
