Some additional news to the signing of Aleksey Lukashevich of Brest Zubrs by the Pittsburgh Pirates: According to a report in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the 16-year-old will start his professional career next year in Bradenton, Florida, playing in the Gulf Coast League. He is currently visiting Pirate City to take his physicals and to get a first taste of professional baseball.
He is the 14th international player to sign with the Pittsburgh Pirates in the last three years. Besides players from South Africa, India, Australia, Taiwan and Colombia, Lukashevich will join fellow Europeans Daan Cornelissen (Netherlands) and Dovydas Neverauskas (Lithuania), who are currently playing in the Gulf Coast League.
