The ORKAS continue to impress in their first season in the Venezuelan Liga Paralela. They have won the last three games in a row and moved into third place in the standings with a 4-2 record. An update on the last three matches:
Caracas – ALB Orkas 4-5

The ORKAS moved their record back to .500 with a 5-4 victory against CARACAS last Saturday. Both teams scored three runs each in the first three innings. The BBC broke the tie in the sixth, taking a 5-3 lead. The home team tried to rally in the seventh, but only managed one run.
Emilio Linarez went two-for-four with two doubles and a RBI. David Diaz and Walter Correa also got RBIs. Koeiman Zair pinch hit for Andres Lizarazo and scored one of the two sixth-inning runs. Herbert Lara had three hits and three RBIs for CARACAS.
Kevin Alarcon (W 1-0) started for the ORKAS and allowed four hits, three runs (1 ER) and a walk in five innings. He struck out eight. New PIONIER Shane Gnade replaced him and gave up a run on a hit and a walk in 1 2/3 innings of relief. Luis Camacaro closed it out in the ninth for the save. Alberto Mieres (L 0-1) took the loss after two unearned runs on two hits in five relief innings.
ALB Orkas – Leones 1-0

On Sunday, the ORKAS won their third game of the season in walk off style. They scored the lone run in a 1-0 shutout against LEONES in the bottom of the ninth. Jose Aponte, who was two for four with a double, reached home on an error by shortstop Douglas Duran.
On the mound Yulman Ribeiro dominated with eleven strikeouts in eight innings, conceding just four hits and a walk. Steven Van Groningen (W 1-0) picked up the win, completing the combined four-hitter with two walks in a scoreless ninth.
Ricky Thomas and Visbsen Sytse got the starts at designated hitter and catcher, but went hitless in four at-bats. Third baseman Daniel Bittar from the Serie A2 club PIACENZA BASEBALL (second division in Italy) replaced Visbsen in the lineup late in the game and hit a single in his lone plate appearance.
ALB Orkas – Tampa Bay Rays 4-3

On Monday, the ORKAS won their third consecutive game, when they scored the decisive fourth run in the eighth in a 4-3 win against the RAYS affiliate. Gabriel Montero hit his second homerun of the season. Jose Aponte (RBI) and Daniel Bittar each had two hits for the ORKAS. Right fielder Steffan Hoogewerf managed a bases loaded walk and struck out in his second plate appearance. Ricky Thomas had a double in his lone at bat. Catcher Alejandro Torres had three hits for TAMPA BAY.
Carlos Farias got the start for the BBC. He gave up six hits, two runs (1 ER) and three base on balls in six innings. He struck out six. After Andres Perez loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh, Jurjen Van Zijl (W 1-0) came in and escaped the trouble, only conceding one run. He stayed on the mound for two one-hit innings to receive his first win in Venezuela. Luis Camacaro pitched the ninth for his second save.
