After the ORKAS won 10-9 on Tuesday against the ST LOUIS CARDINALS affiliate (no box score available at the moment) and the game against LA GUAIRA on Wednesday was cancelled due to protesting people, the European-filled club in the Liga Paralela beat the PIRATES on Thursday 6-5 in ten innings.
The BBC started strong and took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and held on to a three-run advantage till the bottom of the eighth, when PITTSBURGH rallied for three runs to tie the game. The match went into extra innings with the outcome being decided in the tenth frame. The ORKAS struck first, bringing two runs on the board to take a 6-4 lead. The PIRATES scored a run on three hits in the bottom of the period against closer Luis Camacaro, but failed to tie the game again.
Jose Aponte continued his hot bat with a homerun and two RBIs. Emilio Linarez went two for four with two doubles and two runs scored. Walter Correa had three hits. AMSTERDAM’s Koeiman Zair had two hits in three at bats including a triple.
Pitching wise Nelson Santander got another start. He allowed one unearned run on five hits and a walk in six innings. He struck out six and lowered his ERA to 0.82. Steven Van Groningen picked up his second win in the competition with 1 1/3 two-hit innings of relief.
