Triple-A (1)
Tayler Scott (33), Houston Astros. South Africa. Sugar Land Space Cowboys.
Scott pitched in six games this month for the Arizona Diamondbacks, giving up 13 hits and four walks in nine innings for a 9.00 ERA and 1.89 WHIP. After 18 days in the big leagues, Scott was designated for assignment and declared free agency. As someone who has been previously designated, he had the right to declare free agency.
Note from the editor: Hours after this report was filed, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reported that Scott elected to return to Houston on a minor league deal [link]. The southpaw started the year with the Astros after a break-out 2024, but will head to Sugar Land, Texas, in a bid to return to the majors. Scott has not allowed a run in three games (3.1 innings) at Triple-A this year, striking out four and surrendering only one hit and no free passes with the Reno Aces (Diamondbacks) earlier in the season. He has a career 3.77 ERA, 1.310 WHIP, and 10.2 strikeouts per nine innings in six career seasons at the minors’ highest level, numbers which are slightly better than his overall averages down on the farm (3.76, 1.40, and 7.3, respectively).
Low-A (1)
David Matoma (19), Pittsburgh Pirates. Uganda. Bradenton Marauders.
Matoma spent two weeks in June on the injured list with biceps soreness, but he has since made two appearances, allowing a run in his first game back (while recording one out) and going four-up, four-down on July 1. For the season, he has now appeared in 15 games (21 IP) and has a 4.29 ERA with 21 strikeouts versus 18 hits and 11 walks.
Rookie League, Dominican Complex Leagues (3)
Allen Ajoti (20), Los Angeles Dodgers. Uganda. DSL LAD Mega.
Ajoti continued his previously reported hot start to the DSL season, hitting four home runs in his first seven games. He has had two hits in six games since then, giving him a season slash line to date of .209/.320/.512. The backstop and outfielder has walked four times and stolen a pair of bases while striking out on average once per game.
Joseph Deng Thon (18), Los Angeles Dodgers. South Sudan/Uganda. DSL LAD Mega.
Deng has arrived in the Dominican but has not yet appeared in any games.
Armstrong Muhoozi (18), Pittsburgh Pirates. Uganda. DSL Pirates Black.
Muhoozi has 10 games under his belt, tallying six hits (including two doubles) and stealing seven bases. He has struck out eight times. The Ugandan outfielder then went on the minor league seven-day IL and it has been three weeks since he has appeared in a game.
