We kind of neglected the first full week of the Australian Baseball League a little bit due to the EBCA Convention in Cologne. The coverage will get better on Mister-Baseball. Adelaide Bite and the Sydney Blue Sox started pretty well into the 2010/2011 season, winning the first four games against Melbourne Aces and Canberra Cavalry, while Perth Heat won three out of four against the Brisbane Bandits.
From a European perspective Donald Lutz, who is going to see a lot of time in the outfield, had a decent start into his ABL career with Canberra. He went 3-for-13 with two doubles, a run scored and two RBI in the first four games. Teammate Mariekson Gregorius had one hit and a pair of stolen bases in his first 13 at-bats. Alessandro Maestri, who is also on the roster of the Cavalry, is still not active.
Today week three in the ABL gets underway with the matchup between Perth Heat and Adelaide Bite. The other four teams resume play on Thursday. Canberra Cavalry will have its home opener in a duel of winless teams against the Melbourne Aces, while the Brisbane Bandits take on the Sydney Blue Sox.
