As mentioned in the game report this morning, CARIPARMA only played out yesterday’s semi-final round match against SAN MARINO under protest. A ruling by the Italian Baseball and Softball Federation (FIBS) came real quick. FIBS judge Vincenzo La Rocca decided for PARMA in the appeal case and ruled that the 14-2 final result for the reigning champion was not valid. The game will start over in the top of the five with two outs and SAN MARINO leading 8-2. The match is rescheduled for Friday evening at 9pm CET. Games two and three of the series were pushed back to Saturday and Sunday.
During the game on Wednesday home plate umpire Lino Fabrin had forced PARMA to substitute reliever Mattia Salsi due to the number of visits by the pitching coach. However CARIPARMA argued that the first visit in the inning came with Roberto Corradini on the mound, so another visit to Salsi should have been correct. After the game was stopped for an hour, play continued with PARMA having replaced Salsi with Brian Scarcella.
