Led by a strong Marco Grifantini CARIPARMA defeated REGGIO EMILIA 3-2 on Friday evening in the Italian Baseball League. He allowed just two runs (1 ER) on seven hits and two bb in seven-plus innings, striking out eight. Danny Newman closed it out for the save. PARMA took a fast 2-0 lead in the opening frame, thanks to a RBI single by Jhonny Carvajal and a sac fly by Orlando Munoz. In the sixth PALFINGER’s Fabio Guardasoni scored on an error to bring his team within one run. But another sac fly in the eighth, this time by Laidel Chapelli, put CARIPARMA back up by two runs. Carvajal had led off the period with triple. REGGIO EMILIA again cut the deficit in the bottom half of the inning on a RBI groundout by Claudio Biagini. They couldn’t score more afterwards and lost. Gregory Palanzo gave up nine hits, three runs and a walk in 7 2/3 innings.

The other three games, which were planned for Friday, were rained out and will be made up on Saturday afternoon as part of day-night doubleheaders. The series between BOLOGNA and GROSSETO was extended to Sunday after the second postponement in two days.
