Recaps: San Marino wins first game against Nettuno

SAN MARINO extended its lead over NETTUNO in the Italian Baseball League standings with a 5-2 win on Thursday evening, opening a three-game series between playoff contenders. They scored three runs on four hits and two errors in the first frame and added two more on a homerun by Max De Biase in the fifth. DANESI avoided the shutout by scoring in the ninth, but the two-run rally was too little too late. Ardley Jansen went three-for-four with two runs scored and a RBI. Horacio Estrada held NETTUNO scoreless thru eight innings, allowing just four hits and a walk, while striking out seven. Jeff Farnsworth took the loss after 4 1/3 innings, nine hits, five runs (3 ER) and a bb.

RIMINI’s Rafael Garcia and Gustavo Martinez combined to allow just three hits and two walks in a 2-0 shutout against GODO. Garcia struck out five in eight scoreless innings. Martinez closed out the three-hitter with a perfect ninth. The PIRATES offense needed until the seventh to come through against DE ANGELIS starter Emmanuel Ulloa (6.2 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 7 SO). Filippo Crociati put RIMINI up in front with a RBI single. Ivanon Coffie doubled the score in the eighth with a RBI double.

Ricky Palma struck out 13 in eight strong innings to lead CARIPARMA to 2-0 victory over REGGIO EMILIA, which puts them into sole position of fourth in the standings. Palma gave up just three hits and three bb. 78 of his 125 pitches were strikes. Oscar Lira completed the shutout with a scoreless ninth. Davide Dallospedale and Jhonny Carvajal provided the necessary run support with RBI singles in the fifth. Abe Alvarez conceded six hits, two runs and two walks in six innings.

The fourth game, which was scheduled for Thursday, between BOLOGNA and GROSSETO was postponed due to rain and will be made up as part of a day-night doubleheader on Saturday.
