The German Baseball and Softball Federation (DBV) has announced on Monday that Jan Hendler is taking over as new managing director starting on April 1st. The 31-year-old worked as a controller at a service provider for finance information and has been a volunteer coach in team handball.
“We wish him good luck for his new task and hope that all partners support him to make it a smooth start.”, says DBV Vice President for Finances Christopher Goulet. Hendler’s first item on the agenda will be the creation and organization of the new DBV office in Frankfurt. “I am looking forward to the new environment, hoping to help the executive board in the day to day work to develop German Baseball and Softball actively.” He is succeeding longtime managing director Arndt Wiedmaier, who had shaped the DBV for more than a decade.
During Wiedmaier’s tenure the sport saw an increase in participation, the German Baseball National Team became one of the best in Europe and several European Championships, a Baseball World Cup and a WBC Qualifier were successfully organized. Due to an illness he had been sidelined since December of 2013.
Hendler will begin April 1st. It is the last piece of the re-structuring of the DBV, which started more than a year ago with the addition of a new manager for the DBV leagues, a new executive board in November and a new sport director with Dirk Fries, who starts on March 15. Additionally the DBV Office moves from Mainz to Frankfurt, right within the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB).
