2011 in Review – Dutch Hoofdklasse – UVV

As we did in the last couple of years, we want to use the offseason to look back at the statistical performances by the teams in Europe’s top baseball leagues this past season. At the plate for the first part is the Dutch Hoofdklasse.

2011 Record: 17-25
2011 Ranking: 5th. Being the promoted team in the Hoofdklasse, UVV didn’t disappoint and was able to play at the same level like the top four teams with only inconsistency stopping them from a playoff qualification. During the playdowns the club from Utrecht won seven of the nine games to easily secure its spot in the 2012 campaign.
Runs Scored: 196 (5th)
Runs Allowed: 257 (7th)

Best Batter: Fausto Alvarez. The Cuban veteran batted .336/.392/.469 with four homeruns, 17 runs and 22 RBI in just 30 games this season.

Best Pitcher: Orlando Yntema. The Dutch national teamer had an even 7-7 record with an ERA of 2.38 in 15 starts. He struck out 82 in 102 innings, walking 31.

Best ERA Reliever: Derek Tarapacki 2.70
