2011 in Review – Dutch Hoofdklasse – Sparta/Feyenoord Rotterdam

As we did in the last couple of years, we want to use the offseason to look back at the statistical performances by the teams in Europe’s top baseball leagues this past season. At the plate for the first part is the Dutch Hoofdklasse.

Sparta/Feyenoord Rotterdam

2011 Record: 16-26
2011 Ranking: 7th place. After capturing sixth place in the regular season of the Hoofdklasse, Sparta/Feyenoord dropped to seventh during the playdowns due to winning just four of the nine games.
Runs Scored: 180 (7th)
Runs Allowed: 247 (tied for 5th)

Best Batter: Jourick Blanco – He batted .309 (OBP .402/SLG .474) with two homeruns, ten doubles, 13 runs scored and 18 RBI in 28 games.
Best OPS: Jourick Blanco .876

Most RBI: Jourick Blanco 18

Most Stolen Bases: Jesus Castillo 13

Best Pitcher: Jose Ventura – The closer had a 1-2 record with three saves and an ERA of 1.98 in nine appearances on the mound. He struck out 31 batters in 27 1/3 innings, walking 11. Opponents batted just .218 against him.
Best ERA Starter: Bobby Carrington 2.93
Best ERA Reliever: Jose Ventura 1.98
Most Strikeouts: Bobby Carrington 70
Most Walks: Bobby Carrington 37
