2010 in Review – German Baseball-Bundesliga – HSV Stealers

We are underway with our review series of the European Baseball season 2010. We already looked at the Italian Baseball League and the Dutch Hoofdklasse. Now at the plate: the German Baseball-Bundesliga.

HSV Stealers

2010 Record: 12-16
2010 Ranking: 4th place in northern division after regular season. The HSV Stealers qualified for the playoffs in the Baseball-Bundesliga for a second straight year. They again faced the Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg in the quarterfinals, stunned them with an extra-inning victory in game three before being eliminated in four games.
Runs Scored: 116 (7th)
Runs Allowed: 150 (tied for 5th)

Best Batter: Patrick Maat. The Australian catcher batted .309 (OBP .426/SLG .515) with four homeruns, eight doubles, 14 runs scored and 18 RBI in his first year in Germany.
Best OPS: Patrick Maat .942
Most Home Runs: Patrick Maat 4 (tied for 5th in league)
Most RBI: Patrick Maat 18
Most Runs Scored: Brehan Murphy 16
Most Stolen Bases: Michael Kujoth 7

Best Pitcher: Joakim Claesson. The Swedish National Team pitcher only was able to start in three games for the Hamburg based club due to the Vulcan ash problem in April. He allowed eight runs (7 ER) on 16 hits and six walks in 23 innings, while striking out 15.
Best ERA Starter: Joakim Claesson 2.74 (Minimum 20 IP)
Best ERA Reliever: Jens Hawlitzky 3.63
Most Strikeouts: Daniel Harms 35
Most Walks: Daniel Harms 49
Most Innings Pitched: Daniel Harms 57.0
