2010 in Review – German Baseball-Bundesliga – Saarlouis Hornets

We are underway with our review series of the European Baseball season 2010. We already looked at the Italian Baseball League and the Dutch Hoofdklasse. Now at the plate: the German Baseball-Bundesliga.

Saarlouis Hornets

2010 Record: 19-21 (including playdowns)
2010 Ranking: 5th place in the southern division of the Baseball-Bundesliga. After missing the playoffs in the Baseball-Bundesliga, the Saarlouis Hornets battled to move up in the standings at the end of the playdowns for a fifth-place finish. However due to financial reasons the club decided to withdraw from the Baseball-Bundesliga a few weeks ago.
Runs Scored: 160 (5th)
Runs Allowed: 201 (7th)

Best Batter: Jakub Vojak. The Czech catcher impressed during his first season in Germany, batting .357 (OBP .476/SLG .643) with five homeruns, three triples, seven doubles, 30 runs scored and 30 RBI in 28 games, all behind the plate.
Best OPS: Jakub Vojak 1.119 (4th in league)
Most Home Runs: Jakub Vojak 5 (tied for 3rd)
Most RBI: Jakub Vojak 30 (tied for 3rd)
Most Runs Scored: Jakub Vojak (tied for 5th)
Most Stolen Bases: Jakub Vojak 9

Best Pitcher: Ales Keprta. He had a 4-8 record with an ERA of 4.95 in 14 starts this year. He struck out 53 batters in 92 2/3 innings, while walking 43.
Best ERA Starter: Tom Fiebig 4.90
Best ERA Reliever: Peter Ackermann 7.41
Most Strikeouts: Ales Keprta 53
Most Walks: Peter Ackermann 50
Most Innings Pitched: Ales Keprta 92.2 (2nd in league)
