2010 in Review – German Baseball-Bundesliga – Dortmund Wanderers

We are underway with our review series of the European Baseball season 2010. We already looked at the Italian Baseball League and the Dutch Hoofdklasse. Now at the plate: the German Baseball-Bundesliga.

Dortmund Wanderers

2010 Record: 19-21 (including playdowns)
2010 Ranking: 5th place in northern division of Baseball-Bundesliga. The Dortmund Wanderers didn’t have big expectations going into the 2010 season, but still were in the playoff race before settling for fifth place in the final standings.
Runs Scored: 120 (5th)
Runs Allowed: 157 (6th)

Best Batter: Aljoscha Heller. The 22-year-old German shortstop batted .414 (OBP .472/SLG .532) with two triples, nine doubles, 18 runs scored and 18 RBI in 28 games. He led the northern division with 46 hits.
Best OPS: Aljoscha Heller 1.004 (6th in league)
Most Home Runs: Trevor Howell 3
Most RBI: Trevor Howell 27 (3rd in league)
Most Runs Scored: Aljoscha Heller 18
Most Stolen Bases: Aljoscha Heller 11 (tied for 2nd)

Best Pitcher: Matt Kemp. In his third season the 27-year-old right-hander had a 7-7 record with an ERA of 2.15 in 14 starts. He struck out 148 batters in 117 innings, while walking 35.
Best ERA Starter: Matt Kemp 2.15 (4th in league)
Best ERA Reliever: Dennis Stechmann 5.56 (sort of, had 8 relief appearances and 7 starts)
Most Strikeouts: Matt Kemp 148 (led league)
Most Walks: Daniel Schroeder 42
Most Innings Pitched: Matt Kemp 117.0 (led league)
