After losing to New York Mets minor leaguers on Saturday, the farm players of the Florida Marlins also were too strong for Italy one day later. The Marlins scored seven runs in the seventh in Jupiter on Sunday to beat the Squadra Azzurri 9-2. Italy scored its runs on a RBI double by Mario Chiarini in the first and a RBI single by Jack Santora in the fifth.

Cody Cillo, Junior Oberto, Chris Di Roma, Yovany D’Amico, Marco Grifantini and Justin Cicatello shared the workload for Italy on the mound. Chiarini was 2-for-3. Santora, Alex Sambucci, Giovanni Pantaleoni and Juan Carlos Infante had the remaining hits for the blues. Kyle Skipworth and Josh Kroeger homered for Florida, which also had Vinny Rottino in the lineup who played for Italy in the 2009 World Baseball Classic.

The team of manager Marco Mazzieri is going to play against the Canadian Lafleche College on Tuesday afternoon in Vero Beach, before closing out its Spring Training with two games against the Washington Nationals.
