A video conference call of the Federal Council of the Italian Baseball and Softball Federation last Friday revealed that at the moment just only seven teams are registered to participate in the Italian Baseball League in 2013. Grosseto, which was in danger of withdrawal already last winter, will not play in the IBL.
Therefore the proposed changes to the format with an extension to at least 12 teams and two divisions in the first round won’t be made this winter and the format will stay put. This means that one team will be off each week. A final decision is expected at the next Federal Council meeting on December 7 prior to the Gala of Diamonds in Parma.
Additionally FIBS revealed that they will receive about 290,000 Euros less from CONI (Italian National Olympic Committee) in 2013 compared to this year.
- 926,942 Euros instead of 1,090,520 Euros for Special Projects
- 580,284 Euros instead of 682,688 Euros for Olympic and High Level Training (National Teams)
- 149,304 Euros instead of 175,652 Euros for Sports Activities
