5 Points of Hitting, New Entry – a Baseball-Blog by John Miller

Posted on October 29, 2008October 29, 2008 by philipp

John Miller, head coach of the Brussels Kangaroos and a reporter for a major American newspaper, is chronicling his team’s 2008 season in a column that will appear every Monday on mister-baseball.com. It is the first of several Mister-Baseball Blogs this year.

One of our features this year was an invitation to teach hitting in five points. Here’s an inspired entry, just sent in by a reader who’s a professional baseball scout. I fear he’s right.

  • 1. Be born with parents who possess athletic ability and large frames.
  • 2. Hope your mental development creates patience, compulsiveness, arrogance, and fearlessness.
  • 3. See the ball.
  • 4. Swing as hard as you can without losing total control.
  • 5. Run your ass off and truly fight for the next base on every ball hit.

“If you can do those 5 things,” he adds, “you have just as good a chance as anyone to play in the big leagues.”
