The Swedish Elitserien gets started today with a matchup between the Sundbyberg Heat and the Swedish Baseball Academy. The Stockholm Monarchs are the reigning champion and hope to defend their title.
Seven teams will enter the competition after the Karlskoga Bats withdrew during the offseason. The Botkyrka Salmons have joined the league lineup to play against Stockholm, Sundbyberg, the Academy, Sölvesborg Firehawks, Goteborg Hajarna and the Leksand Lumberjacks.
The regular season gets played from April 29 to August 29, interrupted only by a couple of breaks in June for the European Cup Qualifiers and in July when the national team competes in a tournament in Belgium. The semi-finals are scheduled to start on September 5. The winner will be known by September 20 the latest.
