2010 in Review – Italian Baseball League – Catania Warriors

The season in European Baseball is over. It is time to look back. We will start our annual review series with the Italian Baseball League.

Catania Warriors

2010 Record: 8-34
2010 Ranking: 7th place in Italian Baseball League. They were the new team at the beginning of the season, but were able to pull off an early upset against Danesi Nettuno. They won just four games from April to June, but left eighth place in the standings with four straight wins at the end of the regular season.

20100417-ROSARIO-Olmo-CAT-(Ferrini-FIBS)Best Batter: Olmo Perez Rosario. The shortstop batted .318 (OBP .373/SLG .519) with six homeruns, 13 doubles, 29 runs scored and 28 RBI in 42 games. He was second in the league with 80 Total Bases.

Best Pitcher: Orlando Yntema. He had a 3-9 record with an ERA of 4.67 in 13 starts this year. He struck out 69 batters in 81 innings, while walking 49. He made his national team debut for the Netherlands at the Intercontinental Cup in Taiwan.
Best ERA Starter: Orlando Yntema 4.67
Best ERA Reliever: Salvatore Sciacca 3.98
Most Strikeouts: Orlando Yntema 69 (5th in IBL)
Most Walks: Yorkin Ferreras 66
